(1) System Structure

The power plant automation system performs protection, measurement, control and analysis functions on the low-voltage electric system in the power supply system. The system connects separate protective-relay sets, control sets and executive sets in 6KV/10KV and 400V equipment by industrial Ethernet network. There whole system is comprised of the isolation layer, communication layer and plant control layer.

The communication layer consists of the communication network and its management. It offers communication channels for intelligent devices, DCS system, electric monitoring system and other systems inside the power plant. The communication network is implemented by the industrial Ethernet network.

(2) Requirements of Network

The architecture of the network is a redundant ring or dual star Ethernet. The industrial Ethernet switches are required to be compliant with IEC61850 specifications, and qualified for high temperatures, humidity and strong EMI.

(3) Implementation

Industrial Ethernet switches such as SICOM3024, KIEN3024 and KIEN3016 are employed in the redundant ring or dual star network.
